We held our first sibling support workshop today at Hutt City Baptist Church. It was great to see the idea by Sinead finally come to fruition.
10 siblings mostly intermediate/young teenagers came along. We started with pizza and just getting to know each other.
Georgina Kirk facilitated some great discussion on what it is like to grow up with a sibling with Down Syndrome. She shared from her experiences growing up with her brother Spencer.
Some of the feedback was:
"Its great to know I am not alone"
"Everything about today was great"
"Can we do this every Saturday?"
"Great connecting with others and talking"
"Lots of laughs and Georgina as great fun"
The church had a great flexi space with ping pong, pool tables, foosball. We finished off the afternoon with milkshakes.
Some of the clips we watched and talked about were:
Thanks
